IMHO aesthetics dictate that you build with an alloy groupset and others support. I would not put a CF group on your classic steel frame. By contrast, I prefer Chorus or Record on CF frames. I just built with '07 Chorus CF on a CF bike and it is very nice but honestly, it doesn't shift any better then my Veloce Group did on my Bianchi. Functionally, I don't find much difference. The Veloce and Centaur groups are the way to go on a classic steelie. I love the new Campy cranks btw....alloy or CF.
