Chain length with bash guard

Hello,
I have just finished finished installing a new chain and the derailleur just doesn't look right when the bike is set big chain ring to big cog. I have pulled my large chain ring and installed a bash guard so my 32 middle ring is now the big ring. When I fit my chain I installed it from big cog to big chain ring and added one link plus the SRAM power link. Once threaded through the derailleur pulleys and connected the derailleur arm looks like it's too far forward. There is still quite a bit of room for it to move forward when the chassis compresses but it does look odd.

So, when you have a setup like mine is there a different formula for figuring chain length or is it the same big cog to big chain ring fit?

Thanks in advance,
Mike
