Actually the suicide is all about being rescued. These peolple beg to be rescued. That is why they do it, in the first place. Since more women survive the attempt, it makes them more successful, not otherwise.

Women use mostly, if I remember the statistics correctly, the overdosing of medicine.

It is not related just to some jerks and freaks. The suicide is one of the leading causes of death. Having loaded and oiled gun around makes it very easy. Especially since the real suicidal urge may last only several minutes, and then may be gone.

In a way, it is even worse than homicide (if something could be worse), because it traumatizes the spouse, parents, children very seriously. So add to those 30000 per year about 100000 relatives and spouses, and we can see that this is not a negligent problem. And at least in some cases the easily accessible gun is the part of it.
