I tried various things for the Livestrong ride last year, including a for trade in the Classic & Vintage thread. Offering a few things for shipping plus a small contribution to my ride (via the Livestrong web site) I ended up paying most of it myself...

I think it just takes an aggressive in your face attitude, which I don't have... Or rich contacts, which I don't have...

Thankfully they lowered the contribution amount this year, or I would definitely not be riding again.
