I've another question for (more or less) experienced cyclists
What itinerary should you advise to ride from Tucson to Albuquerque?
Up till now some the result of Bike Forum expertise and input from Lonely Planet and Hospitality Club seems to result in:
1. Tucson - Globe - Show Low - Eager - Qemado - and then some possibilities (via Grants, shorter; or Socorro, more sceneric)
2. Train/bus to Lordsburg; Silver City - Caballo and the Camino Real along Highway 25 to the north.
Both are sceneric (by)ways, I'm informed and also found much info on www.byways.org. I like that, scenery, history and culture.
But maybe it has not too much been approached from a cyclists' view. The road-safety (shoulders, much/little traffic) and the slopes-frequency is not completely considered.
Also 'catering'-possibilities and solutions for bicycle-problems (public transport not too far away, repairers) and lodging (hostels, camping) should be considered.
What shall I do?
Or is thre still a better alternative?
(P.S. my 'skills': 60 miles a day; climbing ca, 2000 feet a day. Expect to need 9 days for the trip?)
