i have flats on my everyday bike. at 40cm, they're wider than other bars i have, and so feel very stable. but they're plenty narrow for traffic. they used to bug my wrists, but that was when i had short mtb-style grips on them. now i've got long keirin style grips on them, which are not as soft, but also aren't as big and bumpy, so i can move my hands around and put my forearm-wrist-hands at different angles (wide on the bar, mid on the bar, close to the stem) which does make a difference. obviously not high performance bars, but they do the trick. i'll be moving over to ergo drops and hoods once it gets warmer and saturdays turn into days for nyack and beyond...
