The only place that rents tandems in Toronto seems to be the Island Rentals, and they are not going to be open for a couple more months anyway. There is also a place in the East end that rents "historical" bikes to the media and they have a 30's tandem, but I doubt they'd let me have it just for a few hours for a friviolous birthday spin.
So, does anyone know of any place I overlooked in my search? Or maybe you even know an individual who owns a tandem and would be willing to make a few bucks by renting it to a very careful cyclist that is myself? *sigh* Probably not, but at least I tried.

If that old tandem is from Cogs it is fixed...perhaps not the best choice. Warren Cycle Works on Queen East has an old CCM cruiser bike tandem in the window...it is certainly not new so he might be willing to rent it out. Be forewarned though...the guy in there is a bit surly and can be hard to deal with. You may want to try Sandy's Cycle up on Laird...they are tandem specialists and might have something for you to rent. Maybe try a Craigslist ad...someone out there prolly has one they would be willing to rent.
