Thanks a lot Davet & Retro grouch. Yes your right about the mistake most guys (well errr me at least) make, Since I was only changing shifters I'd thought it would be easy as the mechs Hi & Lo were already set etc... How wrong I was.

One thing though you say "set the cable tension"? o.k how? sorry being pedantic, the Shimano instructions say take out any slack I did that but then this made shifting into the top gear very very stiff! and I worry that it may damage the shifter pods, so I put some slack back in through the barrell adjustment. But that did'nt help much.

Anyway enuff said I'll read through the Park tool link, see what I can learn from that, and I'll start from scratch and see if I can get it right this time.

By the time I get it right I'll be a pro (I hope) at SIS adjustment.
