I agree the shop should have known better especially because I did not. Clearly they should have had a better solution than sending me home with a spare race to dremmel and grind on. The kicker is this shop runs a Park Tool certified mechanics class that I was thinking about signing up for. I am going to take the fork in tomorrow and talk with the owner and make sure the race is seated properly. Bottom line is that at worst I messed up a crown race and not the fork itself. Thanks for the help, it will at the very least allow me to tell the owner of this shop how to handle this next time.
