this is a great tactic, if you want everyone to come flying by you. when you want to accelerate in you car from 30 to 70 do you just throw it in fifth or sixth gear (assuming a manual transmission) and mash the pedal? i didn't think so. it really varies from sprint to sprint. is it flat, slightly uphill, slightly downhill? are riding into a headwind or a tailwind. how far away is the last corner from the line? what is your speed coming out of the turn? how big is the group? have they all been sitting around waiting for the sprint or has the pace been high with lots of attacks and the group is all strung out. are you better at sprinting longer distances or are you better at sitting on a wheel and springing past with a last gasp of speed with 50m to go?
