We might have different definitions of "sprint." I'm talking about the absolute, last, 100% effort, where you're really trying to break something. I shift with all the leadouts and accelerations, but when I pull off that last wheel to come around at 100rpm, I'm done shifting. Before that, when I'm still on a wheel, I'm not "sprinting" yet.
The jump from 32mph to 40mph is just faster for me in the same gear.
If you're talking about the setup for the sprint, then yeah, I agree.

In that last race the sprint began at 29 mph, and I ended up in the 42 range. I had one guy come up next to me in the sprint before I dropped another gear and got him by 3-4 bike lengths. I do sprint from 400m though.
