How would the brake cable/nylon strap adjustability happen? It seems like the brake cable would have to run around or through the entire length of the strap to really add strength so that it didn't come loose after a skid or 2, and thus, it would kind of screw up the buckle possibilities. Maybe you have a clever solution?
What about, say, sewing the nylon strap to some Lorica or other toughish synthetic that is backed with velcro and doing the velcro thing somehow? I was just looking at my shoes and thinking "Man, I really rip on those straps and they never move, maybe that could be adapted somehow." I'll let your gears turn, for I am not a seamstress by nature.
