My new bike came with a 53/39 and a 12/27 cassette. My previous bike had a compact crankset. I didn't think I would like the new combination but I actually like it better. I even ordered a Shimano 105 53/39 crankset to replace the compact on my other bike as well. I actually feel like I have more usable gears with the 53/39 and 12/27 or 11/26 cassette.
