Ah (*&%&$ I need some new pedals
Ok so here goes. Historically I have always used pedals with cages and hiking boots on my Mtn Bike. Last year I bought a road bike and it came with SPD's. So I put SPD's on all of my bikes. But after yesterday's ride I am ready to switch.
The SPD's work on the road ok. No real hotspot issues. They even have worked in most situations on the trail.
But yesterday was a different story. I was riding on the trail after we got a few inches of snow. So it was a snowy muddy mess.
I had numerous times where I just couldn't get clipped in on my second foot. It reminded me of skiing. When I would stop and put my foot down the bottom of my shoe would get crapped up with snow and mud, and as a result the cleat would not engage the pedal, similar to binding problems when I get snow on the bottom of my ski boots.
So I want to get some new pedals. Something better at clearing the mud etc. But I also want some that will work on my road bike. I have all mountain shoes. I like the walkability of mountain shoes.
The crank brothers line seems promising since they have some with platforms to help on the road with hotspots. But it is hard to figure out which are compatible with mtn shoes. Plus I don't know all of the options out there.
I have done some searches but haven't found good answers for the situation of mtn bikers who like the same pedals on their road bike.
Thanks for you help
