I have been commuting for the last 18 months on SPD pedals (Shimano M324 specifically) and really like them. Last month I replaced the SPD pedals on my road bike and went with the Look Keo pedals. The Look cleats are huge!, and very unfriendly to walk on. It's my understanding that the SPDr pedals have a very similar cleat to the Look pedals. Based on my limited experience with a true road pedal, I personally wouldn't want to commute on them. Don't get me wrong, I like the Look pedals on my road bike, I find them easy to get in and out of, but I don't like the shoe, and cleat combo for frequent stops. And fixing my commuter on the side of the road with that shoe/cleat combo would be a real drag... At least to me.
