Lake Cycling Sandals and cleat installation
I got me some nice Lake Cycling Sandals along with my nashbar ATB clipless pedals, and I can't wait to get them on the bike in the next month or so.
I figured out that I had to cut away at the scored area on the undersole of the sandals to reveal the area to install the cleat, I was expecting something more complicated to their installation, but was pleased to find out how simple it was. Now, considering that this is my first pair of clipless anythings, I have a question or two.
The cleats install with two allenhead bolts that go thru an oval washer with two holes in it, sort of like a chainlink without the the inward curve in the middle of the links, and from there pass directly into/thru the cleat and screw into the recievers mounted in the sandals. There are 4 recievers... I'm only using two, obviously. My problem is that the bolts are just too darned short to screw into the recievers, I can feel them touching, but can not get them to turn more than a quarter of a turn. Now, if I leave out the washer and pass the bolts thru the big oval opening of the cleat they screw in fine. I'm sure that this could possibly cause problems in the future but the heads of the bolts are large enough to allow me to mount the cleat just fine.
So... will using them this way cause any damage? I'm sure it is not acceptable to do it like this, but can't really foresee what could happen. Has anyone any experience with Lake sandals? Should I get off my lazy butt and just get some longer bolts? And seriously, is this all there is to a basic install of a cleat onto a Lake sandal?
