Yes, Brooks saddles really are that good!
Wanting to see what all the fuss was about, I bought a B17 and it was love at first sit! I heard about having to "break them in" to be comfortable but mine was just fine right out of the box. Yes, they're expensive, but they will always hold thier value for years to come if it is well taken care of and I can probably sell my saddle for at least what I paid for it!
Forget those gel thingies! They may be okay for short distances but a bicycle is not a Buick LeSabre. They have to be pedaled to make them go and I think alot of newbie and occasional cyclists seem to forget that when choosing a saddle!
