So I've gotten a chance to be a little less angry and actually peruse my power data, and these are some things I picked up.
1. My TSS for my warmup was almost the same as for the race. Way too many matches burned.
2. That little hill really did me in. Why? because it was a longer high-power effort than I was used to, I think. Hence the comment about doing more work on my 1-minute power.
3. My cadence really dropped off going up the hill, and I think I wore my legs out needlessly. I mean, my cadence dropped into the 60's by the top. In retrospect, just dropping to my small ring for the climb would have let me maintain higher cadence and keep the legs fresher for the chicane after the hill without any drop in speed whatsoever. Also, going from small to big ring at the top would've put me directly into a good gear to accelerate through the chicane.
4. Basically, my power seemed to be gradually dropping off toward the end from lap to lap in the same parts of the course. I also think I need to focus more on shorter recoveries between efforts in my training so I can react better to a course like this.
5. 24 oz of coffee didn't seem to do well by me pre-race. It's the only thing I changed in my pre-race routine and my peak power values were kind of mediocre. Related? Who knows, but I won't be doing it again.
6. Staying at the front of the pack was vitally important to success in this race, and I spaced out and got to the line late, sabotaging myself. DUMB.
It really is nice to have that info available to go over with a level head later on...
