Bikes: Soma Double Cross 54cm

Hi,

I would size the frame to your legs, since that is the part of the bike geometry you'll be able to change the least (particularly if it's too large). Torso can be adjusted for by changing the length/height/etc. of your handlebar stem.

Since you say you have longer legs and a shorter torso, the 57cm bike seemed like it was coming up juuust to your crotch, and left your arms/torso feeling a bit stretched out, sounds like 55cm might be a great fit?! Do you have a chance to try a 55cm?

I have the opposite problem from you -- I'm about 6' tall, and have a 30" inseam (on jeans.. my pubic bone height is about 81.5-ish cm). When I size bikes for my legs, my torso winds up being about 1 size too "long" for the top part of the frame. It's easy to compensate by getting a stem that pushes the handlebars up and out by a cm or two.

In my case i can't size for my torso, since that would make it impossible for me to stand over the bike.

You've got more latitude for sizing for your torso, if you want to go that way... you can just raise the seat an extra inch or so to compensate.

Alternately, do what I do -- size just for your legs... then get a shorter stem till your torso feels right.

Again, if you're not experiencing much extra standover height on the 57cm randonee, I wouldn't be suprised if the 55cm fit better overall. Also, sounds like this bike fits larger than people expect, based on its official tube length specs.
