I don't mind dropping the laces in favor of velcro on my shimano mid-level mtb shoes (model escapes me). My kids don't have shoe laces, why should I. Actually my other shoes mostly don't lace either: tevas, boat shoes (they have laces but they're not used), crocs...

Actually it's the aggressive tread on the shimanos that looks a little too ... too... to me, and is actively annoying when I'm dragging clumps of whatever into the house.
