Bottom line: v-brakes are not worth the amount of frustration you will pour into them. Adjusted well, they work great and are light. But good luck keeping them adjusted. Hydro discs are generally maintenance free. Occasionally they are a pain, but still easy to fix. Gosh, I hate v-brakes so much. =)
