Yes, it used to be very common practice decades ago until the Brooks Swallow was introduced. But seems like this practice is gaining popularity once again. Even Wallingford has a page dedicated to modified Brooks. Who wants to pay $300 for a newly re-introduced Swallow? Aftermarket Swallows are available for much less but they are crap.
I've been riding a butchered Team Pro for over a year now....no problem. Thing is, these butchered Brooks look so much better on modern frames.
