Highway cycling.
Thanks to my new housing quarters, I'm a little over 10 miles away from work instead of the dreary 3 mile ride I had before. I just started cycling to work (I really hate cold weather) and realized the only feasable route is along a 2 lane highway, the first half of it is 55mph, the other slows down to 40, then it opens up to 4 lane city streets (where I'm actually comfortable). The highway is fairly wide and doesn't have alot of traffic and so far I've not had any run-ins with traffic. Nobody's glares at me, nobody has been pushy, and people always give adequate room when they pass, most change lanes completely into the oncoming lane when traffic permits to pass, otherwise thet give me about 5 feet. I command my lane so my presence is known, and when sombody starts to pass me, I edge over to give them more room between the car and me. Should I be doing this, or should I hold my position and make them wait for an opening in oncoming traffic to pass me?
