Euro 'dales: Perfect commuter?

I have to say first that I am biased, I ride a '98 Cannondale F900 with road tires to work everyday. But I was looking at the 2007 Eurospec Cannondales, and wow! They have some bikes that seem to be the perfect commuters. Fat Schwalbe road tires, disk brakes, panniers, and they even have fenders!. Some models have internal gearing hubs that so many of the commuters here rave about.

Some of these "perfect commuters" are the Touring Rohloff Ultra, or the Trekking Ultra and Light. Now normally I would be complaining on why they don't sell them in the US, but lucky me I've left the country more than 10 years ago.

Anyway, my current bike is fine, but it would be nice to upgrade to discs from the v-brakes. And does any one here have much experience with internal gears? The Rohloff hub is a 500-14 according to the cannondale site. Do they give a wide enough range for real climbs? Would they be as good for 100km tours in the Alps as they would for short commutes?

Enough of my drooling, I gotta bike home. What do you think?
