If you don't train to stand while climbing you're not going to be effective at it.

Lately, I have begun to stand a lot more on climbing workout rides, and am training those muscles that never got much use before. As a result, I am noticing better results when out of the saddle now. Of course, losing 15-20 pounds has also helped too

. Oh, and a solid winter of base riding.
