cyclezealot, all of the artists in the list you posted has been played on the various stations in this area. As have most of the songs you listed. And to date none of the DJ's have been considered obnoxious, at least in my opinion. Nor have they ever been banned by anything they've said over the air.
See a community of this size, a total of about 103,000 people you tend to run into the DJ's in public quite a bit. This community is small compared to a lot of other major urban centers. These days a population of 103,000 is considered small for a community.
Plus every time there is a major public event several of the stations are there. They give away the freebie stuff of course, ask people to sign up for drawings. But also to meet and greet the public.
Right now our convention center is in the midst of it's show season. My wife & I recently went to the home show. There were at least 4 radio stations there.
Plus there are several other public events to attend in the spring and summer. There is Saturday In The Park, Rivercade & Art Splash just to name a few. At every one of these events there are at least 3 radio stations present.
As far as content goes. There is plenty of variety to go aroundl If a person does not like the music content of one radio station they simply have to change the station until they find something they do like.
Maybe in your area the content isn't as good and the DJ's are obnoxious idiot's. Here that generally is not a problem.
