The post vasectomy syndrome, which is delayed pain, does occur in about 10 per cent but it is usually transient, by no means do 10% of patients have chronic pain. I have done close to a thousand vasectomies and i have NO ONE in my practice that complains of chronic pain, maybe they are seeing someone else, I don't know. But there is one cold hard incontrovertable fact- having a vasectomy is safer than ANYTHING your partner can do except cross her legs. Safer than the pill, safer than a tubal, safer than a condom, safer than anything. So when your baby making days are done, buck up gentleman and give me a call. And don't even ask me if you can bank sperm first- if you do you won't be getting a vasectomy from me cause you ain't ready.
As a doc, perhaps you can shed a little bit of light on a question of mine.

My dad had a vasectomy done back in the late 70's early 80's after my sister was born, and said that he never would've had it done had he knows of some supposed "health side-effects" that he started encountering. Namely, something he called "blowouts" that allegedly is the thinning of the walls of blood vessels, resulting in nastier and harder to heal bruises, more frequenty and prolonged nosebleeds, etc. I've searched and can find nothing along the lines of what he said he's read about. Any opinion on stuff like that?
