Seriously though, I've always been told that as long as you properly maintain your drivetrain and replace the chain before it is stretched beyond that "point of no return" then the rest of the DT should last a long time. I've replaced dozens of chains on the few bikes I've owned over the years, however not a cassette. I have yet to experience problems in shifting performance in doing this practice. Just my two cents.
