Amusing driver "interaction" this morning

I'm happily back on the bike every day after a two month, injury-induced layoff. When I commuted to Midtown I was at work by 7:30 so didn't get honked at much because there weren't that many cars out (relatively). At my current job I used to get in at 9:30, which had a similar effect. Now I'm getting in a 9, putting me right in the thick of things, car-traffic-wise.

Anyhow, to the point: I get honked at and buzzed pretty regularly on Riverside Drive from 165th to 96th as I head south to get on the Hudson Greenway. FYI, two lanes each direction most of the way. Today I hear honking from a way, way off behind me. A peek in my mirror reveals a sedan maybe 100m back. Honking continues, sedan switches to left lane to get around me, but slows down to get even with me. The driver and passenger? A couple of old ladies. One of them whines at me, "get out of the way". Yeah, straight-up. W(here)TF am I supposed to go? 20mph not good enough for you on a city street? Bah! I gave my now standard reply of "Learn the law!" with a little bit of color. The best part, though was after that, when *they* were honked at for holding-up traffic by slowing to chew me out. I liked that. Drivers can be really classy that way sometimes.

On a related note, I really think having a few red rear blinkers cuts down on the honking and buzzing. Being rainy, foggy morning I had the full complement a-blaze and had very little trouble, the above amusing incident asid.
