I've heard the "buy XXXXX and you won't need the warranty" suggestion in other industries, too. Especially with cars. I would argue that, if the product is so good, why does the manufacturer not offer as good a warranty as others?

I'd rather have it in writing, in the rare case I do have to fight it out in court, than to not have it in writing, and get caught in the rare case that I do get a lemon.
