If these are cup and cone hubs, then buy solid axles to replace the hollow QR ones. They are $10 for nice cromoly steel ones at my LBS. The guy there told me front ones are usually 9mm. Rear ones are usually 10mm. Don't know how much truth is in that. The 9mm ones have worked for me on the front hubs of 2 bikes. I haven't had to do the conversion on a rear wheel yet.
