Sometimes, you just have one of those bad traffic days. Really sucks when it happens. But it sucks less on a bike that in a cage.
As for your question, I do everything I can to
not block a right turn lane especially when it's not really a turn lane but an improvised turn lane. People trying to turn right are typically looking over the shoulder at oncoming traffic and not where they are going. I don't think it's safe to be where they are going at that time. In a situation like you described, I would either pull far enough forward that the right turners cross behind me or I stop far enough back they the right turners cross in front of me.
