Still sucks, but jeebus you had me imagining a 10 year old on a pink bike with basket and streamers! People ride their bikes on the street by my apartment all the time. Part of me doesn't blame them because of how much traffic and buzzing happens on that street, but as shown here, you're even less likely to be seen, or to hit someone coming out of a driveway, if you're on the sidewalk. The cyclists on the sidewalks here are jerks, though, expecting me and my dog to leap into the flower planters so they can keep going 15 mph down the sidewalk. Still, I don't wish an accident on them... although letting them bail into the planter for a change is tempting.
