Hello and welcome, BWally,

I live on Long Island too.
I just joined the Long Island Bicycle Club.

http://www.bicyclelongisland.org/libcfram.htm

Dues are twenty dollars a year.

I don't know if I'm ready for the longer rides. Longest ride I've done lately is about twelve miles.
I don't even own a road bike.

I have a recumbent, two electric bikes, a mountain bike with street tires, and a lowrider (BMX disguised to look like a 1982 Suzuki GS).

I carry a little whisk broom when I ride, and I sweep the broken glass up if I come across it (Heineken, snapple, corona) bottles get tossed out of moving cars. I will concentrate on the route published in the LIBC website.

It looks like Piping Rock Road is being prepared for a repaving between Locust Valley and Old Brookville.

It might be time for me to get a road bike, although I like my faired recumbent.

I suggest that you should join the LIBC, while I work behind the scenes.
