Also someplace else to consider especially for a summer trip - Mammoth Lakes, CA. It's beautiful there. And the mountain biking can't be beat (as good or better than Utah!)! Plus plenty of hiking, lakes, relaxing etc.

From the Main Lodge and other shops - there are family friendly bicycle rentals. They will shuttle you to the top of Paper Route and then you and the kids can ride down on some of the coolest switchbacks back into town, turn around and do it again all day!!! While you are riding, the wife can sun herself at Lake Mary or any of the others lakes around.

Mammoth is a very family friendly place to go - as well as the neighboring June Lakes. It's a 5 hr. drive North of Los Angeles. Or about the same from Sacramento. Actually Lake Tahoe is also a nice place to go about 3 hours out of Sacramento.
