I'm just not sure that it's worth the effort to replace parts on a Target bike

That said. I wouldn't bother with the derailieurs, instead I'd replace the gripshifts with friction thumbshifters ( <$15 anywhere and far more forgiving). I actually fixed up a <gasp> Huffy Stalker FS (that I was given) using the thumbshifters, a flat handle bar I had lying around, some leftover tires I no longer use, along with grips and a Schwinn saddle from Target. I spent less than $50 and the bike rides 1000% better than it did before, however it still doesn't compare to my other Bike Store bikes and I would hate to ride it for anything more than a couple of miles largely due to it's smallish flimsy feeling frame and crappy wheels, but it functions well enough for a bike that I put together as a bike to get me to and from a bus stop and to be left locked outside for hours at a time in order to spare my good bikes which I'd use in a secure parking situation.

No. The shifters that you currently have are Shimano compatible not SRAM. SRAM makes shifters for both Shimano and SRAM but uses a different system for it's own stuff.
