When on road tires you just need to be a little bit more nimble. You cant just be barreling over sharp pieces of glass all day and expect your tires to not shred. As for potholes and bumps in the road, I'd be more worried about your rim than tires. Get a decent set of rims so you don't have to true them every other day. And yes, you CAN bunny hop curbs, potholes, bumps, small children, if you want. Since you come from mtn biking you probably should know how to correctly, and since you're probably gonna have clipless pedals its 10x easier. I bunny hop everything. Its a lot easier on my rims than smashing into bumps. But then again, I am 140 pounds.
