Back in the early '60s, it seemed that my mother was the only person in the world who had heard of Neosporin. Being treated by school and camp nurses with Iodine and Mercurochrome when I knew about Neosporin seemed like intentional torture by the authority figures.

In 2nd grade, I had a teacher tell me that the sting was all the germs dying. Even then I knew enough about anatomy to know that a germ dying couldn't cause me pain. And of course I knew that Neosporin killed germs without stinging. After that I never took an authority at their word.
