I found that the MUP that runs parallel to the road I'd otherwise ride on (but half a mile north of) is much flatter than the road. Plus, the hills are more gradual. Since I noticed this, it seems to me that most roads are unnessecarily hilly.
Translation: take the bike path if you have one. If not, then it's excellent training.
