Sorry but could not keep hands off the keyboard. I assure you I carefully read both articles. I then did careful research.

"Hands, feet, and blunt objects kill far more people in the US than guns."
From the FBI and the link I provided above, this statement is incorrect. This is the same statistics quoted by Mr. Cramer in the link you provided. Looking at the numbers from 1996 you will see that over 13,000 murders were committed by Handguns and other guns while just over 6,000 were committed by knife, blunt object or other weapon. More than double by guns. You will also see in the columns below that the gun deaths trended up from 2001 while the "others" remained more or less static. I read both articles carefully before I replied. There are plenty of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man arguments to go around. Mr. Cramer does not report the difference in how UK crime statistics reporting changed and skewed the results as I linked and if you read the article in detail, he is blaming the US gun culture as one of the main reasons for the UK gun violence rise.

"I don't think I have ever met anyone (on the pro-rights side of the discussion) that believes *everyone* should be permitted legal ownership of *any* weapons. That position is always presented to me as a Straw Man by those on the more restrictions side of the discussion."

A simple google search reveals numerous arguments for no gun control. I may be wrong but does not no gun control mean that there should be no controls over guns. John McCain just said it in a speech yesterday.
By CALVIN WOODWARD, Associated Press Writer Thu Apr 19, 6:42 AM ET
WASHINGTON - Republican presidential candidate John McCain (news, bio, voting record) declared Wednesday he believes in "no gun control," making the strongest affirmation of support for gun rights in the GOP field since the Virginia Tech massacre.
Here are a few more links saying the same thing. I could find more but what would that prove?

The federal government started reducing the funding for public institutions during the Reagan era. Perhaps we should take a look at that situation.

We will not solve this on this "bike" forum so I officially call myself done.

Once again my prayers for the victims and the survivors.
