That would put a decently constructed model in the $100 range in retail. I'm assuming here that the body will have to be aluminum for heat dissipation, so the unit costs maybe $20 to build, package and put into distribution, then the various markups take it to $100 (I don't think that would be an unusual markup).

There simply isn't any reason any LED light should cost $500. Even the highest power emitter is still just a few bucks in quantity, and apart from that it's pretty basic standard electronics and an aluminum case.
