Not bad for free? Shimano Deore STX parts, wonder how they compare to the modern line of Shimanos.
Hierarchy-wise STX fell in around where Deore sits today... below DeoreLX. As far as straight performance is concerned, I'd say they probably perform on par with modern Alivio if not slightly better assuming the components aren't too worn.
BTW, what's up with the driveside chainstay. It looks like it might have been damaged.
