Rolling resistance vs. traction

I do not like my 1.95 Cinder rear tire. It "mudded up" way too fast, failed to shed the mud quickly, and will be too small for some summer Super D races. I think it will still be a reasonable tire for winter but for summer riding, may not be ideal. I am at a lost for a decent mud-shedding tire with minimal rolling resistance. Maybe this discussion is purely subjective but before I buy a half dozen tires to try what is out there, thought I would see what others have to say.
This is for my hardtail and primarily xc riding.
