But how are you going to know what you can do it if you don't try. If you do do it and it just isn't working, you'll know, take a SAG in and live to ride another day, I have. It's a tough decision, but never feel bad about DNFing we all have bad days. All the doubles need great volunteers maybe we'll see there one way or another.

Dante, I love that advice and really appreciate you saying that here. The fear of the big D-N-F seems pervasive (I have the fear myself, let me not misconstrue!). Funny thing is, some of the very best, most down-to-earth riders I've had the pleasure of meeting (including you) have DNFed, talk/laugh about it and
learn from it. Great advice. Hmmm...perhaps I'll stop licking my weak quads and get my butt out on the Eastern Sierra double myself. What IS the worst thing that can happen?...
