I pretty much only listen to it in the car or at work anyhow... so plugging it in isn't really a big deal. I dropped it when it was fairly new and the disc doesn't spin so great anymore (makes a nice humming noise) I think that's the real problem behind the short battery life.
I got a battery kit from evil bay for my 3rd gen & DIY'ed it, big improvement. However months later i crushed it between my hip & the curb that sucked.
I now have a hard case for my new one & don’t clip it to my belt when riding!
