I picked this up a thrift store the other day, but have no idea who made it, as all the emblems and decals were stripped when I bought it. The model appears to be a competition (unless thats the brand, though I have never heard of them.) The bike seems extremely light for an older bike (even before parts were stripped).
Pics:
as you can see I've already have started stripping things, but I have a list of what was on the frame.
Frame says:
three(?) special Cr-Mo Tubing (little rainbow strip on top tube)
Champion No. 5 Chrome Molyboen Steel Seamless P.G. tubes Tange industries LTD(square blue gold sticker)
Components:
Dia Compe brakes
Suntour power shifters
Rear derailleur: Suntour V GT Luxe
Front derailleur : Sountour 7
Here is what I have come up with in my research: Raleigh did of course have model called the competition being made around this time using similar parts, such as suntour derailleurs, shifters, and Compe Brakes. However I don't think they were using tange tubing, usually all reynolds or raleigh. Finding info for '80's raleighs is difficult, so I can't be sure. It does look like a raleigh however.
Suntour, I believe, did not come out with their power shifters until '86, so I think this bike may actually be newer than I thought it was, but again I am not sure.
Any help would be appreciated!
