It's not "sell".

It's Sell-le (like eh). People who don't speak latin-based languages cannot distinguish "eh" from "ay". It's not from education, it's from lack of intonation at a young age in some languages. Once hearing patterns develop after 5 years, some sounds cannot be distinguished. This is why asians can have problems with l's and r's, and why it is very difficult to learn chinese or japanese if you grew up on english.
