Just checked out Assos base layers on their website. They have some effective looking base layers. They might be a replacement for a heavy winter jacket. ? But, does one have to spend over $130 plus to be warm? A Goretex winter jacket might cost less. But, then you have bulk. Sometimes, I think my bike club is just more cold blooded than I am. Probably a majority of riders would say, just ride harder.
