My Paramount
With the help of the LBS I made contact with a gentleman that had a Schwinn Paramount for sale. After meeting with the gentleman, talking with him, seeing the bike, and agreeing on a price I paid him and I am now the VERY excited owner of a chrome 1971 Paramount P15-9.
The only downside to this bike is the Decal on the seat post is missing, the decals on the down tube are yellowing and the decal on the left side of the down tube has part of the “n” and “t” flaked off! The wheels have some small scratches on the rims. Other than this, the bike is pristine and appears to be 100% (tires???) original! Oh yeah, I did get the tool kit also. The bike has been well cared for, ridden very little, and carefully stored! Other than a small amount of rust under the seat cluster and fork crown the chrome was perfect, and the pin striping around the lugs is excellent. Any place on the bike that required lubrication had a yellowish film, but that came right off with polish! Other that the items that I mentioned, this bike is very near mint condition! All I have done to this bike is detail it out! Believe me when I tell you, I enjoyed every second of the process!
I now FULLY understand , why some members of this forum are smitten by the Paramount! It truly is a work of art! Smitten, is the perfect word to describe my feelings for this bike! I have enjoyed (and envied) seeing the pictures of the beautiful Paramount bikes of the members of this forum, but never entertained the thought that I would find one as nice as those! I’m not saying that my Paramount is as nice as those, but I am satisfied with it and I am very thankful for the good fortune I have enjoyed!
The bike has the Schwinn “control stick” shifters and also the “suicide levers” on the brakes. I guess if I were ordering it new I might go with barcons and no suicide levers! However, for now it stays the way it is! The gumwalls on the tires are “melting” and I have bought new tires for it, but haven’t changed them out yet, as the tubes are still holding air! The frame size is 24” and “not my size,”so I have not ridden it yet! I will ride it, but as silly as this sounds, I am content to look at it and try to find finger prints smudges to polish off! Besides it’s raining here!
If I can remember how, I will post a couple of pics of MY Paramount! When these pics were taken the clean-up was not completed!
