Look up Finland, will you? Expecialy northern Finland. The issue here is, there are some urban centers even in the most desolate places of Finland, and they have excellent public transport. And these centers are connected with each other with excellent public transportation.
Why couldn't Montana be like this? I don't know, maybe people think it's cool to live 100 miles from the closest human.
